3 Options to choose from:
All the options will be listed for you on the back of your
traffic ticket.
OPTION 1: Plea of Guilty
This option is for those who want to pay the fine amount plus the
victim surcharge. By choosing this option and paying the
ticket you forfeit your right to a trial and will be charged with
the offence and "total payable" amount written on your ticket.
Remember that after you pay it you will have a conviction registered
on your drivers abstract for 3 years that will also be seen by your
insurance company.
OPTION 2: To plead guilty
with an explanation
This option is essentially the same as the first one with the
exception that now you will be able to speak to the justice of the
peace about your charge and give an explanation as to why you did
it. All in hopes to receive a reduction in your fine amount.
You will still have a conviction on your record for insurance
companies to have a reason to increase your premiums, just like the
first option.
OPTION 3: Trial Option
This option here is your ideal option. Allowing you to
exercise your right to a fair trial. With this option
you have nothing to lose and everything to gain. The worst
case scenario would be that you are convicted of the original
offence you were charged with and will be given 30 days to pay.
You have to go to a court office and file a "notice of intention to
appear" for this option, you can not choose this option by mail or
any other route. By choosing this option you know have a
possibility have have the charges and fines reduced. And now
you also have a chance of having the charges withdrawn, leaving you
with nothing on your record as if you never got the ticket. It
will not show up on your abstract, and the insurance companies would
never find out about it. |
